St. Helena Queen Victoria Covers 1876 (8 Dec.) "United States Consulate at St. Helena" blue envelope to a member of the House of Representatives, Washington, U.S.A., rated "7 1/2" and bearing 1868 4d. carmine (words 18mm. long) pair with indistinct "blocks" cork cancellations, showing despatch c.d.s. and London Paid c.d.s. (28.12) on face, New York Paid All duplex (10.1) on reverse; the left-hand stamp with small stain, otherwise fine, rare and most attractive. Holcombe Certificate (1993). S.G. 14. Photo Estimate £ 1,400-1,600 Note: The rate to U.S.A. at this time was 7 1/2d. As St. Helena did not issue 1/2d. stamps until 1884 the cover had to be overfranked by 1/2d.
