x India Early Letters and Handstamps 1826 (28 Mar.) soldier´s entire letter "From Lewis Carroll (Private) Second M.E. Regiment" to his parents in Ireland, countersigned by the Commanding Officer showing a good strike of the "india soldier&/3/london" circular h.s. (In. Sol. 4) and, on reverse, "madras/soldiers letter/Free" unframed d.s. (HG SD10) in red and London transit c.d.s. (20.10); the contents, written from "Kamptee, near Nagpore", includes notes on the journey East, a broken arm due to bad weather, a 1,000 mile march from Masulipatam to Nagpore during the monsoons which took four months, etc.; a few small splits at folds, etc. though an interesting item.
