St. Helena The Boer War 1900 (17 Dec.) envelope (complete with letter) from H.L. Dalton, an Irish Nationalist and U.K. citizen, to his brother Sam in Salisbury, Rhodesia, bearing 1890 1d. pale red with small part cancellation of bars and showing Type 1 censor cachet initialled "FWA", Kopje, Salisbury c.d.s. (17.1) and with manuscript "Opened by mistake I Dalton", the reverse (small faults) with part U.K. (4.1) several Rhodesian transit c.d.s. A highly unusual item. Photo Estimate £ 200-250 Note: Dalton was taken prisoner fighting for the Boers at Abraams Kraal on the Modder River during the advance to Bloemfontein in March 1900. As Dalton was a U.K. citizen he was not entitled to the normal P.O.W. clothing and pay. The letter requests financial assistance
