1840 One Penny Black Imprimaturs Plate I TA, from the lower left corner of the sheet showing the plate number "1" in the corner, and additionally showing part of the marginal inscription, "PRICE 1d. Per La..."; with extremely large margins on the other sides; a very important and unique positional piece from the first registration sheet (before hardening). A beautifully fresh and stunning stamp of exhibition quality, and of the upmost importance Estimate £ 120,000-150,000 The first sheet (before hardening) was registered on 15th April 1840. The stamps which have been removed from this sheet are AL (Royal collection) SB-SL TA-TL The second sheet (after hardening) was registered on 27th April 1840 The stamps removed from this sheet are AL (Royal collection) SC-SL TA-TL One corner marginal example, TL, is in the Postal Museum, though it is not clear whether this is from the first or second sheet provenance: Leonard H.
