† Great Britain Postal History Newspapers The Times, July 18, 1839, with a letter from John Dickinson on page 6, "Reduction of Postage - Remarks on the mode of carrying into effect the reduction of postage" and commenting on his being appointed by the Government to manufacture post-office franks; this is followed by a general, detailed analysis of the costings of covers and the cost of paper and the expected increase in the volumes of letter sent. It compares the advantages and disadvantages of labels against covers, bearing in mind that forgeries are more liable on labels as well as the defacement and damage by rubbing in the post carriage of the labels during transit.
