† Great Britain Postal History Newspapers The Times, July 5 1839, a long article under the heading "Uniform Penny Post" being an extensive study indicating the revenue anticipated by the Post Office, demonstrating the increased volume created by the reduction in price. It compares the fall in price of soap, tea and admission to the Tower showing the increased demand created by reduced price brings more profit. The article also mentions the Stroud to Nailsworth experiment where a reduction in postage from 4d. to 1d. resulted in a six-fold increase in volume.
