Great Britain Postal History 1803 (5 Sept.) long cross written entire letter from a British Prisoner of War held by the French at Nîmes, addressed to London, with red despatch datestamp (23.9) and, on reverse, Foreign Office arrival (3.10), re-addressed to Wrexham and with a variety of charge markings; fine. One of the last mails sent after the declaration of War between France and the United Kingdom. Interesting contents including "We do not sincerely regret the loss of our liberty" and "Your letters will now come safely by Germany" (a reference to the Treaty of Thurn and Taxis).
