Charles I, Anglo-Dutch Fishing Treaty, 1636, cast bronze medal, 55 mm., by Heinrich Reitz, conjoined busts of Charles I, armoured and draped, three-quarters right, with Henrietta Maria, right, car.et.mar.d.g.angl.franc.et. hiber rr, rev. ivstitia et pax oscvlatae svnt psal 84, seated figures of Justice and Peace, embracing, two infant genii in attendance (MI, I, 279, 84; Eimer 128b), coarsely cast, very fine, extremely rare in bronze Estimate £ 300-500 provenance This medal usually occurs in silver but MI notes an example in bronze in the Bodleian. The Anglo Dutch Fishing Treaty of 1636 allowed the Dutch to fish in British seas in return for a payment of £30,000. Following the Treaty a fleet was deployed to clear the seas of pirates.
