Act of January 29, 1863. Cr.117. B-157. No.627. 200 Pounds. 5000 Francs. The Erlanger Loan. Woman with Confederate flag and cotton bales watches ship. Signed by Baron Emile Erlanger (French and German loan manager), J.Henry Schroeder (British Agent), Colin J. McRae (Financial Agent in Europe, Alabama businessman and Confederate Congressman) and John Slidell, CSA Commissioner to France and later the father in law of Erlanger´s son. VF-EF. John Slidell, and James Mason were the CSA Commissioners to France and England. They booked passage from America to England aboard the British mail steamer Trent, which was intercepted by the American Navy. The Commissioners were captured and brought back to the United States. This incident almost drew the British into the War on the Confederate side, but calmer heads eventually prevailed. Estimate US$ 500-1,000
