Great Britain Postal History 1840 (12 May) "The Liverpool Standard" newspaper containing a long article "penny postage pictures", being not very positive about the Penny Black "... we have also little bits of stuff like sticking plaster, with a dirty looking bust of her Majesty, for dabbing on the back of a letter" but reserving its main venom for the Mulready, lampooning the design and concluding "... Perhaps Rowland Hill, Esq. or the artist W. Mulready, Esq. R.A. can explain, but for our part, we give up the attempt in despair" Estimate £ 150-200
