Harthacnut (1040-42), Penny, 1.19g, arm and sceptre type in name of Harthacnut, Derby, Wulfheah, helmeted bust left holding lis tipped sceptre, +harcnvt, rev. +pvlfeh on deorb, central pellet within quadrilateral with a pellet on each tip around, over voided short cross (N.811- bust 2; S.1168), toned, one or two peck marks, slightly crimped, nearly extremely fine, rare issue from a rare mint Estimate £ 3,000-4,000 Derby is listed for 8 coins for this issue. The obverse on this coin is unusual on two counts, a. North bust 2 is usually associated with the jewel cross issue of Harthacnut dated to the Spring-Autumn of 1036 and not the arm and sceptre issues from 1040-1042, b. the kings name reads harcnvt omitting the regal title of r or rex.
