EVANS, John, The Coins of the Ancient Britons, London, 1864, 424 pp, 17 plates, once the property of Augustus W Franks with his signature on inside cover, Sotheby and Co book plate, spine damaged and in need of repair and the Supplement to this, London, 1890, pp 417-599, 9 plates, with dedication by Evans, ´with the authors complements´, binding showing signs of damage on inside, otherwise in good condition and an interesting copy (2) Estimate £ 100-150 Sir Augustus Wollaston Franks, 1826-1897, was a leading Victorian antiquary and collector. He was the first Keeper of British and Mediaeval Antiquities and Ethnography at the British Museum, 1866-1896 and was a Director of the Society of Antiquaries of London from 1858-1867 and 1872-1880, later Vice President for several terms between 1868 and 1891 and President, 1892-1897.
