Henry I, Penny, 1.34g, Type XIV, Southwark, Leofwine, crowned and diademed facing bust holding sceptre to left; star in field to right, rev. quatrefoil with star in centre and pellets on limbs with four lis around, [...]ine: on:svdp (Allen BNJ 2009 no.743; N.870; S.1275), some flat areas, test cut at 9 o´clock, very fine Estimate £ 450-550 provenance Bt. Baldwin, November 2003. This coin is a die duplicate of Carlyon-Britton (Sotheby 20-24 November 1916) lot 1405 where full the moneyers signature is clear proving this coin is indubitably by Leofwine. Patination suggests this coin is ex ´Bournemouth´ hoard, 1901. With AH Baldwin Snr ticket c.1910 with price of 25/-.
