William Fullarton, Pattern Shilling, 1799, by John Milton, 4.95g, draped bust of Prince of Wales left, rev. crowned cruciform shields, the Prince´s crest between each, St. George within Garter star at centre, die axis 0º (Davis 13; cf. Dykes, BNJ 2002, pp. 154-5, 158), good very fine, nicely toned, very rare Estimate £ 220-280 Although Dr Dykes suggests that the probable maximum weight for an original striking of the Shilling is approximately 4.5g, there is no indication of die rust on this specimen. An analysis of its metal composition, done at the Royal Mint, yielded the following result: Ag 95.1%, Cu 4.34%, Pb 0.27%, Au 0.19%, Zn 0.1%, Fe 0.01%. provenance Baldwin auction 18, 12-13 October 1998, lot 1906
