Afghanistan 1878-80, two clasps, Ali Musjid, Charasia (Cap. C.S. Morrison, 14th Bl. Lan.), superb mint state, in Royal Mint envelope Estimate £ 500-600 Captain Claude Steuart Morrison, born Helensburgh, Dumbartonshire, September 1844, and educated at the Glasgow Academy; Forest School, Walthamstow; and Addiscombe; entered the Indian Army, June 1861; posted to the 3rd Gurkhas, October 1864, and served with the Regiment in the Right Column, Dwar Field Force, as Officiating Quartermaster, through the whole of the Bhutan Campaign, 1864-66, being severely wounded at the outset, and Mentioned in Despatches. Transferred to the 14th Bengal Lancers, August 1869; promoted captain, March 1870; served as Provost-Marshal to the Force under Brigadier-General Ross in the Jowaki campaign, 1877-78, and Mentioned in Despatches. Captain Morrison accompanied the Right Wing of his Regiment in January 1879 to Thal, and served with them on the frontier during the Second Afghan War, frequently crossing into enemy territority in pursuit of parties of freebooters; he took part in the advance of the force under General Roberts across the Shutargardan, and was present at the battle of Charasia, 6.10.1879, and the subsequent entry into Kabul. Sent on sick leave, Captain Morrison died of fever back home in England in 1880, aged 36.
