Naval General Service 1793-1840, one clasp, 1 Nov Boat Service 1809 (Frank Ramsden, Midshipman.), extremely fine, with length of original riband Estimate £ 3,200-3,600 Frank Ramsden served as Volunteer First Class in H.M.S. Tigre, when boats from Captain B. Hallowell´s squadron, including from the Tigre, under the orders of Lieutenant J. Tailour (of the same ship), captured or destroyed a French convoy which consisted of five warships and a number of merchant vessels in Rosas Bay, off the north-east coast of Spain, 1.11.1809. Commander Frank Ramsden, R.N., born 1797; joined the Royal Navy March 1808, and was appointed First Class Volunteer to H.M.S. Tigre (Captain Hallowell), ´in the Tigre he united, in Oct. 1809, in the pursuit which led to the self-destruction, near Cape Cette, of the French ships-of-the-line Robuste and Lion; and witnessed the capture and destruction, by the boats of a squadron, of several armed and other vessels in the Bay of Rosas´ (O´Byrne, refers); saw service in the Channel and the Mediterranean as Midshipman with H.M. Ships Royal William, Royal George, Caledonia and Malta (Flag-ships of Sir Roger Curtis, Rear-Admiral Hallowell and Sir Edward Pellew), until February 1815; whilst serving in the latter he was present at the siege of Tarragona, and in various operations on the coast of Catalonia, 1813; subsequent service included in H.M.S. Impregnable (Sir John Duckworth), and again under Hallowell in the Royal Sovereign and the Tonnant; Lieutenant November 1818; appointed to H.M.S. Prince Regent, December 1822; served in the Isis, Spartiate and the Wellesley (all Flag-Ships of Sir George Eyre), and as Signal Lieutenant in the last two ships on the South American Station until promoted Commander in December 1826.
