The Last Descent of British Forces in Palestine´; and a comprehensive file of research (lot) Estimate £ 300-350 529134 Flight Sergeant Robert Yates, born Preston, Lancashire, 1905; joined the East Lancashire Regiment, October 1923 and displayed considerable prowess at Boxing and Athletics whilst serving with them; transferred Army Reserve, 26.10.1930; served as a Prison Officer at Wakefield Prison and Dartmoor before sent on an Army Physical Training Course at Aldershot; enlisted as Physical Training Instructor Royal Air Force, 12.2.1936; served as Staff Instructor, R.A.F. School of P.T., Uxbridge, 1937-40; Flight Sergeant October 1940; Staff Instructor at R.A.F. Officers School, Loughborough and Uxbridge, 1940-43; Aircrew and Officer Cadet Training, 1943-45; appointed Parachute Training Instructor, 13.6.1946 and posted to No.1 Parachute Training School, Upper Heyford; twice served at Airborne Training School, Aqir, Palestine, January 1946-May 1946 and March 1947-December 1947; on 19.12.1947 his Log Book states next to his descent, ´Last Descents of British Forces in Palestine. 145th Descent´; awarded his L.S. & G.C. 11.2.1947; he was part of the R.A.F. Display Party for the Royal Tournament, 1949-50; later postings included R.A.F. Schleswig-Land and Parachute Jumping Training Unit Hildesheim, February 1949-September 1949; he returned to Upper Heyford from October 1949-May 1950, where he completed his 243rd Parachute Descent; retired 1954.
