Bank of Canton Limited, 1935, Refunding Notes for 5 dollars (18), 10 dollars (8), 50 dollars (3) and 100 dollars (13), small format pieces, text all in Chinese, embossed seal of the Bank at left, green, mauve, brown and red respectively, mostly very fine or better. (42) Estimate £ 200 The Bank of Canton was, in 1912, the first Chinese bank registered in Hong Kong, soon opening branches in Shanghai, Hankow, Bangkok, New York and San Francisco. It failed in 1935 and was reorganised in the following year. It is not clear why these notes were issued and we assume they were not part of the reorganisation.
