SPINK LONDON | Spink are excited to be hosting the upcoming sale of the Bruce Smart Collection of British Commonwealth banknotes (part two) on the 27th of September. Those who have long anticipated this sale will have the privilege of seeing the remainder of Mr Smart's collection. The auction features Commonwealth countries beginning with letters H to Z. This includes beautiful banknotes from Southeast Asia as well as a large percentage of British African notes. Both regions are renowned for having climates inimicable to paper, so the fact Bruce has been able to collect such a wide range of original banknotes, in such wonderful condition, is fantastic.

There are some exciting notes from the Bank of Zambia, ranging from ten shillings to five pounds. Lot 626 is a stunning set of uncirculated and incredibly rare notes from 1964, a time where the United Kingdom granted Zambia with independence. To find such rare notes with the serial number 4 is an incredible achievement and will undoubtedly attract a lot of interest.

The sale also contains a lovely note form the Isle of Man (lot 430). This classic Waterlow design, dating back to the 17th of March 1958, is the Barclays Bank £1 with a beautiful blue on red and green underprint, something we at Spink are very fond of.

The proceeds from this auction will be donated to the Delaware Humane Association, a non-profit, no-kill animal care and adoption centre that was founded in 1957 and is dedicated to finding good homes for dogs and cats. This charity has been supported by the Smart family since moving to Delaware in 1970 to start my career with the DuPont Co.

Overall, this sale is incredibly exciting for everyone at Spink as well as Bruce himself. Spink has no doubt that any collector of the countries included here can find something to add to their collection. We look forward to welcoming many of you to London personally on sale day, and wish you the best of luck with your bidding.
