SPINK USA |   Spink are delighted to announce the final part in this summer trifecta of sales in New York; the Stefano Fantaroni Collection of the Kingdom of Italy taking place on the 8th June 2016. The Stefano Fantaroni Collection of the Kingdom of Italy is comprised of 144 lots of select quality mint Never Hinged singles issued prior to WWII. There are also a few Italian States, a couple of covers and some occupation issues. The collection is noteworthy for its overall high quality; this is not a sale to be missed! When perusing this catalogue, many heads of state jump out!

Not only are nearly all the stamps never hinged with certificates from well-regarded Italian experts, but are generally quite well centered, which is a remarkable achievement since most of the issues of the Kingdom period are notoriously poorly centered.

One piece that particularly stands out is the front cover lot: lot 1236, an 1866 40c Carmine, Turin printing, an incredibly choice mint single of the scarcest of all the values in both London and Turin printings of this issue. It shows the profile of King Victor Emmanuel, the first king of a united Italy since the 6th century, a title he held until his death in 1878. His role in uniting the Italian states makes him one of the most important Kings amidst this fine sale, and therefore fitting that he should grace the front cover of Fantaroni's catalogue. This item is valued at a spectacular $6,500.00.

Our next standalone item comes from King Victor Emmanuel's son, King Umberto I (reigned: 1878 - 1900), lot 1261: an 1893 20c Olive green and brown, unissued stamp showing King Umberto I and Queen Margherita as has previously been seen, but in the much scarcer color combination with the pastel olive green. Valued at €15,000.00

1261
