LONDON. January 10,  2013. Premier collectables auction houseSpink & Son Ltdare pleased to announce the appointment of top Philatelic specialist Ian Shapiro to their London headquarters in Bloomsbury. The appointment has been made to meet the demand of Spink's expansive international collectibles division.

Mr. Shapiro,  who is a respected authority on Royal and historical memorabilia, stamps and postal history, will take up the post with immediate effect, to focus on Spink's continued development of its auction and private treaty business, using his longstanding connections in the UK, South Africa and throughout the world.

With such an established reputation in the world of Philately, Mr. Shapiro, a well-known face at the 'London Olympia Fine Art & Antique Fair' and other distinguished stamp exhibitions around the globe, is the current Chairman of the Cape and Natal Study Circle and sits on the board of directors of the BPA expert committee. He writes and lectures regularly on Royal subjects and gives Philatelic Society displays across the UK.

Mr. Shapiro was born in South Africa and graduated from the University of Cape Town with a B.Com degree. After completing accountancy articles in 1988, he relocated to the UK to pursue interests in the philatelic world. He joined Argyll Etkin Limited, where he served as joint Managing Director for many years. A keen stamp collector since childhood, areas of interest include Southern Africa, Abyssinia, Royal postal history, historical documents, manuscripts, autographs and photographs.
