Missent Mail
1899 (9 May) much travelled envelope addressed to a missionary in Hock Schuha, China, bearing pair of German Eagle 10pf. tied by Baden-Baden c.d.s.; the postmarks on the reverse include the Marine Sorter "singapore/to hong kong" (4.6), the P.& O. 'Bengal, where it was incorrectly placed in the Shanghai mailbag, the address side includes a very fine strike of the rare boxed "missent to/shanghae" (Proud I5), with Shanghai arrival (12.6), Hong Kong (16.6) and Shanghai again (22.6) on the reverse. The cover then sent to Hong Kong, Canton, Hong Kong again and finally to Swatow.

A fine and very colourful cover. Proud records only one date for this mark though this is now thought to be one of only two recorded examples. A superb cover for the connoisseur. Photo
