1866 (23 Mar.) entire letter from Martinique to St. Lo, bearing uncancelled 20c. pair, clear to good margins, showing "corresp. d'armees/10 avril 66/vera-cruz" octagonal datestamp (Salles 1334), carried by the "Vera Cruz" on its last voyage on this service, leaving Martinique on 10 April, Paris and receiving St. Lo datestamps on back. The cover was taxed with "3" decimes marking as stipulated for unpaid military mail on despatch, so that the franking exhibited induces us to believe that is was applied later.
