General French Colonies "Eagle" Issue - Military Mail
1863 (3 Mar.) envelope from Fort de France sent by a seaman on board the "Tourville" to Dunkerque, marked "Expedition du Mexique Vaisseau le Tourville le Capne. de Frigate" and signed below by the captain of the vessel to sanction the 20c. military concessionary rate to France applied, instead of the 50c., with 10c. pair, cut into at left, tied by dotted lozenges with dispatch c.d.s. and blue "corr. d. arm./fort-de-france" octagonal datestamp alongside, and arrival on reverse. Carried by the "Vera Cruz" from Fort de France to St. Nazaire. A scarce example of military mail from Martinique. Maury 3. Photo

Note: The military concessionary rate was determined based on the law of 27 August 1792 which stated this special rate to be that which was into force in the interior of France without any additional charge, on condition that mail was carried by French means.
