1870 (11 Dec.) entire letter from Paris to Fort de France, marked "Voie anglaise", posted at the Gare du Nord and bearing "Siège" 20c. and 40c., tied by"12" dotted stars with corresponding Paris c.d.s. adjacent, carried on "Le General Renault" which landed near Baillolet Seine, then put into the mails and later forwarded by British packet the "Shannon" from Southampton to St. Thomas, with St. Pierre arrival c.d.s. exhibited at top left, dated 5 January. Franking overlapping the edge and consequently creased, couple of acidic ink erosions in address panel. A very rare example of Ballon Monte mail sent to Martinique, this exceptionally being postmarked on arrival. Maury 37, 38; €22,500. Photo
