Press Release May 2003
Rare Price for Rarities at Spink - 8 May 2003
An evening sale of 110 rare stamps of Great Britain and the
British Empire from the estate of the late William Frazer realised £657,282
last night and was 98% sold.
The sale of theses rarities, some of which have not been seen by the market
for decades, attracted a large number of collectors to Spink’s auction
room in Bloomsbury, while many international clients participated via
telephone.
Tim Hirsch, Managing Director of Spink, commented: “Collectors and
trade alike relished this opportunity to see so many great rarities in
one place at one time! This was a very exciting sale which clearly demonstrated
the current market’s insatiable demand for rare items. This was
only the second sale in our series of auctions of the William Frazer estate,
and our fourth of seventeen sales this year. We look forward to more tremendous
results such as these throughout 2003."
Spink’s next stamp auction will take place in London on
4 June , when they will offer Australia and Pacific Islands from the William
Frazer estate.
