Press Release 21 November 2005STAMP AND BANKNOTE SALE REALISES OUTSTANDING TOTAL OF HK$ 25 MILLIONOver the weekend Spink played host to four sales of Stamps and Banknotes in Hong Kong. A room brimming with collectors witnessed fierce bidding battles resulting in incredible realisations in price. When the last lot was sold on Sunday 20 November 2005, the sales had realised a total of over HK$ 25,000,000 (£1,861,500). The sales featured collections of stamps from two eminent philatelists, Charles Goodwyn and Major Richard Pratt, as well as stamps from the ‘Twyste’ Collection of China and the W.H. Lu Collection of People’s Republic of China Banknotes. Included among the highlights were: STAMPS:Lot 1081 – from the ‘Twyste’ Collection; The Small One Dollar Surcharge $1 on 3c. red, the most treasured stamp of Chinese philately.Sold for HK$ 2,300,000 (£171,258) Lot 1269 – 1897 Revenue Surcharge; 2c. on 3c. red bearing trial
surcharge in green, commonly referred to as “the red lady in green
dress”.
