The "Monarch" Collection began over twenty years ago, when an accomplished collector and competent philatelist in the field of Great Britain turned his attention to the study of the issues of the King George V. The timing was indeed fortuitous, as at that time a good range of material was available. The collector decided the main structure for the formation of the collection would be The S.G. Specialised Stamp Catalogue Volume 2-the definitive work on the subject. It was this catalogue that provided the framework for him ambitious project-the ultimate achievement being to obtain an example of every item that was listed.

This July we are proud to announce the sale of Steven Tan’s reference collection and also Patrick Tan’s collection of Straits currency as well as numerous other consignors. There are many fine banknotes in the auction but of special interest are two Straits $100 notes, a possibly unique example dated 1898 and a fine example of 1901. An Important Collection of Renaissance Medals & Plaquettes, 24 January 2008
The collection of Renaissance Medals and Plaquettes to be offered by Spink on 24 January is one of the finest the firm has ever offered at auction. One of the highlights is a superb signed plaquette by the Paduan sculptor Andrea Briosco, called Riccio, which depicts a vigorous battle scene before a city gate. Equally skillful, but in a very different style, is the lively storm scene in a plaquette showing Gianettino Doria and his uncle Andrea Doria, by the North Italian artist Leone Leoni.
