February is proving to be another busy month for the department. After a short delay this month’s issue of the Numismatic Circular has been sent out to subscribers. Whilst we have received orders for items from across the selection offered; Milled gold, copper and the Scottish hammered coins have proved particularly popular so far. The Sovereign list has almost completely sold out in just one day!

Last weekend we had the pleasure of seeing some of you at the London Coin Fair at the Holiday Inn, Bloomsbury. It was another successful show for the Coin Department with some good coins being both bought and sold.

This weekend (18th - 19th February) Jeremy Cheek and David Guest will be in Dublin attending the Irish International Coin Fair at the Royal Dublin Society, Ballsbridge. We will be offering a fine selection of our stock and hopefully acquiring some new pieces. Catalogues for the Lucien La Riviere collection of Irish Coins and Medals (to be held on Wednesday 22 February here in London) will be available at the Spink stand and we hope to see many of you there.

Lot 137, Charles I (1625-49), Ormonde’s coinage, Gold Pistole, estimate £60,000 – 80,000

The sale catalogue is available online as a PDF and also in searchable format, where registered clients can leave online bids.

The finishing touches are being made to the catalogue of the Lucien La Riviere collection of Scottish Coins and Medals which will come under the hammer on the 29th of March. Subscribers can expect their copy of the catalogue within the next fortnight. More information on this fantastic collection will be made available in our next newsletter.

Other upcoming events include the Munich coin show and related auctions on the 4th and 5th of March. Our specialists Massimiliano Tursi, Hadrien Rambach, Jeremy Cheek and Paul Dawson will be in attendance. Should collectors require specialist viewing and bidding please email mtursi@spink.com.
