News ArchiveSpink Highlights from 2004 Stamps 2004 saw a very busy year for the Stamp Department, with some sixteen sales in London, Singapore and Hong Kong, comprising over 14,000 lots going under the hammer. A total hammer price of lots sold amounting to in excess of £7.5m, with a healthy average of 80% of all lots finding buyers. Some notable realisations over the year included: Lot 107 from the Miles Rivett-Carnac collection of New South Wales, Laureated issue on unwatermarked paper 3d. dull yellow-green on greyish yellow paper block of fifteen, estimated at £50,000-60,000 set a new world record price for a piece of Australian philately selling for £104,000.
Lot 277 from the October sale of Great Britain Stamps and Postal History, 1d. black lettered OD on entire from London to Leominster dated 6th May 1840 (first day of issue) estimated £25,000-30,000, sold for £34,000.
2005 is looking to be a busy year with 12 sales already planned to date showing a strong and buoyant market.
