WORLD BANKNOTES FETCH ENORMOUS PRICES AT SPINK IN LONDON
Over the course of two days, Spink sold just over 1,000 banknotes during its World Banknotes sale in London. Several languages were overheard in the room where bidders actively pursued lots, bidding against those on the phone and those using Spink Live to participate in the sale. It was a truly international event with an outstanding result: a sale total of £1,478,254. “This sale was filled with numerous rarities which produced a great deal of interest from around the globe. Such enthusiasm from collectors is just another clear indication of how resilient the market for banknotes truly is and I hope this sale can be seen as a vote of confidence for the market: a recession busting event. There was a great buzz in the room and several collectors were seen to be bidding furiously for lots they weren’t leaving Spink without,” stated Barnaby Faull, Director of Banknotes and Auctioneer for the sale.
