Rarest Number one notes from hong kong return home for sale.

Spink are pleased to offer a unique opportunity to obtain serial numbers never before released on the open market. This Saturday Spink will auction 13 notes from The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation. All thirteen lots are low numbered banknotes but what makes this collection exceptional are the seven number 1 serial number notes. All number 1 notes are practically impossible to acquire. In the United Kingdom Her Majesty the Queen is presented with all Bank of England number 1 banknotes.

The highlight of the collection is the $1000 note, dated 31 March 1977, with serial number A 000001. It is estimated to fetch between HK$60,000-80,000.

“Low number currency, especially number ones, are presentation pieces and to be able to offer six such examples together with several other special number notes is an exciting prospect and I have every expectation that the enthusiastic collecting fraternity in Hong Kong will be able to offer pride of place in their collections to these outstanding notes,” said Barnaby Faull, Director of Banknotes at Spink and auctioneer for the sale.

The sale will take place at the Landmark Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Hong Kong on Saturday, January 17th 2009 at 3pm.
