Superb Russian Coins and Medals in Platinum, Gold, Silver and Copper Consigned to 27 September Auction

Spink’s sale during Coinex week at the end of September has attracted three different collections of Russian coins and medals. Highlights of the medal section will certainly be the large and impressive 19th century medals in copper, silver and gold. A selection of the gold medals is illustrated below:

1.  Count Alexius Bestuzhev-Riumin, Russian State Chancellor, Field Marshal, Councilor of State and Senator, gold tribute medal 1762 by J. G. Waechter, 51mm., 59.7g (as D.111.1 but not listed in gold)

2.  Catherine II, Victory in the Crimea 1783, gold medal by A. Abramson, 50mm., 52.64g (D.196.7 - R5)

3.  Nicholas I, Coronation 1826, gold medal by V. Alexeev and M. Sizorsky, 51mm., 88.38g (D.446.4 – R3)

4.  Nicholas I, Pulkovo Observatory 1839, gold medal by H. Gube, 65mm., 224.21g (D.548.1 – R5)

5.  Alexander II, Coronation 1856, gold medal by V. Alexeev and R. Ganneman, 51mm., 103.38g (D.653.2 – R3)

6.  Alexander II, Memorial 1881, gold medal by V. Alexeev and A. Griliches, 76mm., 299.55g (D.881.1 - R5)
