Another Rarity In The Coinex Week Sale

Among many rarities offered in our sale in Coinex week will be a new discovery.
A multiple gold Doppie of Genoa, a 10 Doppie of 1641, has just been disclosed. Until now there were believed to be only two known examples. This, which will be the third known specimen, has been in the hands of the same noble family since the seventeenth century, and is accompanied by extensive background history.

Genoa was a very powerful republic and colonial power, whose regular coinage over many centuries reflected its strength and dominance. Large gold coins were struck in very limited numbers to the same design as the silver coins. This particular denomination was only struck in seven years, and all the dates are rare.
This amazing coin which is in extremely fine condition and weights 66.65 g, will provisionally be estimated at £40,000 to 50,000. The last known specimen to be sold realised $90,000 (plus premium) in New York in 2005. One other specimen sold in Rome in 1956.
