Sale 1009 Lot 9

Anglo-Saxon post-Crondall types (c.655-675), base gold Thrymsa, 1.16g, 'Two Emperors' type, helmeted bust right, pattern of pellets below, cross before, blundered inscription, rev. head of angel facing with wings spreading above heads of two seated Emperors (cf. Metcalf 79-80; N.20; cf. S.767), small edge chip to right of head, nearly very fine, extremely rare
Estimate £ 600-800

The very low gold content and blundered legends of this coin suggests it is a transitional issue between the gold Thrymsa and silver Sceatta coinages.
