1840 1d. red-brown part sheet of ten impressions from the fugitive ink trials marked "No 3 plain paper with Magnesia", stamps 2, 4, 7, 8, 11 and 12 overprinted "No 712" and tested with "Tantric Acid", "Potash", "Tur[pentine]", "Prussic Acid" and "Creosote"; endorsed in the hand of Joshue Bacon "2g". Exceptionally rare, there being only five such sheets in private hands and a remarkable working document. Photo
